What a great week! Snow is meh, but being home is…well, so many things.
I’d always heard home is where you hang your hat. When I was in college the first time (don’t ask) there was a rule we couldn’t put any nails in the walls. No nail, no place to hang a hat. Not really home.
Home is where the heart is. I pretty much carry my loved ones right in my heart, so any place I’m at is really home to me.
Robert Frost said “Home is the place. where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.” A wise man, but I’m not convinced.
Home is four walls that contain your stuff. Perhaps. I do certainly love my bed. And my pups. Family? Check. Routine? Check. Familiarity? Check.
All these things are true. But more so, home is where I get to do me.
This journey has thus far been both exciting and trying. It isn’t always easy to stay focused on what’s important. I was explaining meditation to one of my classmates in class on Tuesday and I relayed a little tidbit to her and her relief was visibly evident. You don’t have to be ‘on’ all the time–just bring it back to your intention when you’re finished, and you are actually being successful.
To the update!
Breathing
This week I re-focused on my breathing during my Daoist 5 meditation. I think I was getting a little lazy this winter and wasn’t really making sure I was letting the breath guide the Qi. I found slowing down even more and the breath work has helped smooth out some rough edges. Successful week.
Cultivating my Qi
Also a successful week; however, I did take off Tuesday since I had lab all morning and pottery class all afternoon. When my youngest asked me to binge a television show with her, she did not have to try very hard to convince me. The show was short and funny and a little ridonkulous, but ultimately, I enjoyed spending the time with her.
Doing for others
I had a fun time in the store this week. If you’re not aware (or at least not local), I woke up to snow. In my area, snowfall continues with more on the way. Earlier in the week I had gone to the store to refill our fridge and pantry. Because I was already out on another errand, I decided to pick up a few last minute items for lunches on Wednesday. The store was a madhouse and the shelves were empty. Maybe because I didn’t ‘need’ supplies to weather the storm, I casually (at least in my own mine) rolled my cart around and just watched the people. Every time I made eye contact, I smiled real big behind my mask. I let people go first or waited for them to finish. I helped one man get something from a higher shelf.
Many people gave thank yous and smiles back. They felt heart-felt and genuine. It really is contagious. Being kind costs nothing and your ROI? Truly infinite.
Learn something new
I love to learn. Can’t get enough sometimes. This week I (re)learned how valuable it is to just let people have their moment. Sometimes people, like me, want to help others. They should have their opportunity.
Absolutely no transition here, but a comment. Serendipity. Sometimes things fall into your lap. This may sound dumb, but the two pictures in the blog were just place holders, but I love them. Delicious looking and great colors. Cannot wait for spring and a wider selection of yummers to experience!
A quick work-related, non-resolution, update. I gave three treatments since I got back on Saturday. Two remote and one in-person. I am thrilled and honored by being allowed to work with people. I appreciate you and wish you the absolute best. Have a wonderful week.
