Good afternoon, all! Hope your week has been amazing.
This week was really good for me. I got a lot of work done on my cadaver…hand was super sore from working the scissors. I’m constantly amazed by the human body. How can we, as human beings, be so fragile and so durable at the same time? This is not only true physically, but also emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I don’t want to dip into world events here, but there’s enough going on in the world to provide countless examples of this. Truly awesome.
I have a couple of things to add, but they’ll fit in just was well down in the actual update. Let’s get to it!
Breathing
Looking back this week, I actually did this a lot. And I know, that’s a ‘no-duh’ comment, but I worked with intent.
Sometimes we really need to just wind down from some stressor in our lives. And face it, as people, we all have stressors. Since the number of ways to wind down are many, why should we choose breathing over another forms, such as getting in some exercise or having a drink? There’s no reason not to. My belief: everyone should exercise regularly. The benefits are really well documented and contribute to an overall sense of well being. Concurrently, and without getting all preachy on you, having a drink with friends is another good way to connect and relax. But breathing? As mentioned in other posts, where the breath goes, energy follows. And with the energy moving, healing happens.
This week I had a reminder of a friend that recently lost her battle with cancer. I was heartbroken all over again. But, by focusing on my breathing and working directly on my lungs (they harbor grief, if you recall), I was able to quickly come to grips and get back to center. I still have work to do in this department, but work is getting done.
One of the things I do as a medical Qigong practitioner is help break up energetic stagnations caused by unprocessed emotions. If you have experienced loss (or some other significant event), reach out to me. I am happy to work with you!
Cultivating my Qi
Took Tuesday off, as usual, but worked steadily through the week. Wednesday I didn’t get to it early in the day like I like, but still worked some in in the late afternoon. I need to sit down and take stock of that. I know there are benefits to doing Qigong at different times of the day (month, year), but haven’t really focused on that as much. Something to add to the to-do list.
Doing for others
Happily, I was able to spend the day with my grandson on Wednesday! I don’t get enough of that. We hung out all morning. Cuddled, read stories (yeah, I’m still reading a lot of books), and napped. I haven’t forgotten what it’s like to have a baby in the house, but I as glad my daughter had appointments all morning so I could take care of him for her.
Also, I was able to help another friend with her meditation practice. She, like many people, has a lot going on, and sometimes her mind works some significant overtime. The breathing technique I taught her is super easy and I’m eager to hear how her week goes as she practices.
Learn something new
I learned a valuable lesson from my youngest just now. I was taking a break from typing this up and was looking at my fingers, trying to recall some of the acupuncture points. Pericardium 9 is at the tips of the middle fingers and I was flipping her off with both hands as she sat at the table eating breakfast. Clearly, I need to be more aware of my surroundings and possible audiences when I’m doing Qigong.
Ok, I should probably wrap this up and get ready for class. I hope you all have a great weekend. And, as always, my best to you as you continue to realize your greatest potential.
